Dr. YAN Shaohua is Associate Professor & Deputy Director of the Center for China-Europe Relations at Fudan University where he teaches and researches EU political economy, China-Europe relations and transatlantic relations. He is associated with the Center for American Studies of Fudan University.
He has published in renowned international journals like Asia Europe Journal, Energy Policy, Transnational Corporations Review, China International Studies and Pacific Journal etc. He is currently associate editor for Asia Europe Journal, a flagship journal for studying Europe’s relations with Asia. He has published a monograph on “European Strategic Autonomy: from Myth to Reality?” with Shanghai People’s Press and co-edited several books on China-EU-US trilateral relations (Routledge), the EU and Global Governance as well as maritime governance (Edward Elgar).
Dr. YAN is a key member of the “EU-China Think Tank Exchange”, a three-year project (2024-2026) funded by the European Commission to improve EU-China bilateral relations and promote mutual understanding. He has secured numerous external grants from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, National Development and Reform Commission as well as the Shanghai Social Science Foundation.
Beyond academic research, YAN Shaohua is committed to promoting understanding, dialogue and cooperation between China and the world. He has organized panels and spoken at numerous international conferences and forums in Asia and Europe, including Summer Davos Forum, Shanghai Forum, Tongzhou Global Development Forum, Berlin Global Dialogue, Bled Strategic Forum and China-Europe Forum etc.
His research and opinions have appeared in mainstream Chinese and international media outlets, such as South China Morning Post, Financial Times (Chinese), China Daily, People’s Daily, CGTN, the Diplomat, Politico and renowned think tanks such as European Policy Center, Heinrich Böll Foundation, ISPI, CSIS, Institut Montaigne and MERICS. Dr. YAN did his Ph.D. of European Studies from the University of Hong Kong and has a master degree of EU International Relations and Diplomacy from the College of Europe in Bruges.
