Abstract: Peking University, Fudan University, Renmin University of China and Tsinghua University are of strategic importance for the development of China’s international relations disciplines. This article conducts a longitudinal comparative analysis of young faculty in international relations from above four universities before and after “Double First-Class” construction and the horizontal comparative analysis among the four universities. Compared with the year 2010, young faculty in 2020 have more advanced degrees, greater internationalization of education, more research outputs with representativeness and more emphasis on research methods and academic conventions. Each university does have its own advantages in the proportion of senior professional titles, the number projects approved by the National Social Science Fund of China and good journal publications. As for the future development, it is necessary to for them to mange six relationships, including international and domestic cultivation, disciplinary construction and supporting platform, disciplinary boundaries and integration, intergenerational differences and inheritance, academic and policy research, inter-school competition and cooperation.
