On November 15-16, 2019, auspiced by the Institute of International Studies and organized by the Center for China's Relations with Neighboring Countries, the Ninth Symposium on China’s Peripheral Diplomacy themed with "China's Peripheral Diplomacy over the Seven Decades: Opportunities and Challenges" was convened at Fudan University, Shanghai, China. Professor Wu Xinbo, Director of the Center for American Studies and Dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University addressed the inaugural plenary remarks. Ms. Yang Jian, Senior Research Fellow and Director of Center for China’s Relations with Neighboring Countries, Fudan University presided at the opening ceremony. Counsellor Chen Feng at Department of Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China and Distinguished Professor Shi Yuanhua delivered keynote speeches. Evolving around the follow-up thematic sessions on "A Synthesis Overview of China's Peripheral Diplomacy", "China's Peripheral Major-country Diplomacy", "China's Peripheral Sub-regional Diplomacy" and "Hotspot Issues on China's Peripheral Diplomacy", the insightful participants exchanged comprehensive, multivariated perspectives constituting a plurality of dynamics on Development and Innovation of China's Peripheral Diplomatic Theories ever since the Start-up of the Reform and Opening Up, Integration of the Peripheral Community with a Shared Future: President Xi Jinping's Reflections on Peripheral Diplomacy, China's Peripheral Security Situation, Peripheral People-to-People Diplomacy, China’s Diplomacy toward the United States, Russia, Japan and India in 2019, China’s Sub-regional Diplomacy in Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, Western Asia and the South Pacific, The Status Quo on the Korean Peninsula, Indo-Pacific Strategy, India-Pak Relations and Japan's Free Trade Strategy, etc. Emeritus colloquium for Professor Shi Yuanhua on the morning of November 15, 2019 conferred appreciation for retired personnel in recognition of Prof. Shi's extraordinary accomplishments of the requisites vying for acadmic supremacy hereto pertaining. Professor Wu Xinbo, Dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University reminisced about the dribs and drabs of Professor Shi’s scholarly feats. Vice Dean Qi Huaigao assumed the designated role of facilitator. Attendants at the symposium, colleagues and students extended congratulatory messages and souvenirs with affectionate sentiments to Professor Shi Yuanhua and his beloved wife Ms. Chen Lifei.
