On the afternoon of May 24, 2024, the Center for American Studies at Fudan University (CAS Fudan) hosted a High-Level Dialogue on China-U.S. Relations themed China and U.S.: Is Win-Win Possible? The dialogue featured Prof. Wu Xinbo, Dean of the Institute of International Studies and Director of the Center for American Studies at Fudan University, and Rick Waters, managing director of Eurasia Group's China practice and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of State.

During the dialogue, Prof. Wu Xinbo and Mr. Rick Waters assessed China-U.S.  relations since the San Francisco summit between the two countries' leaders in November 2023. They discussed the challenges and risks facing the relationship in the coming period. The speakers analyzed the impact of issues such as the Taiwan question, trade and economic frictions, and the U.S. elections, emphasizing the importance of maintaining people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and the U.S.  for the stability of bilateral relations. Finally, they addressed the theme of the dialogue—whether a win-win China-U.S. relationship is possible. Prof. Wu stressed that a prerequisite for achieving a win-win is for the U.S. to adjust its strategic perception of China, particularly the mindset of trying to out-compete China.

In the Q&A session, the speakers addressed questions from the audience on topics such as export controls, China-U.S. -Russia relations, the Taiwan question, and the impact of American politics, especially Trumpism. The interactive session was lively and engaging, providing a successful conclusion to the dialogue.
