On the afternoon of December 12th, 2018, Professor Ezra Feivel Vogel from Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, Harvard University visited the Center for American Studies at Fudan University, presenting the keynote speech entitled A Reflection on 40 Years of Sino-U.S. Relations at the 14th High-end Lecture Series organized by the Collaborative Innovation Center for New Model of China-U.S. Major-Country Relationship. Mr. Vogel looked back into the tremendous achievements China has scored over the past four decades of adopting reform and opening policy which began in 1979 as well as the great advances in China-U.S. relations, integrating his personal academic experience. In the meantime, Prof. Vogel frankly conveyed his concerns about the potential factors influencing the development of China-U.S. relations, the comprehensive prospect and the Trump administration’s China Policy. As one of the most renowned, authoritative scholars in Chinese studies and an old friend of the Chinese people, Prof. Vogel has established long-term close ties with the academia in China since his first visit in 1973, constituting enormous contributions to foster China-U.S. relations and revisiting the Center for American Studies at Fudan on occasions. Professor WU Xinbo, Executive Director of Collaborative Innovation Center for New Model of China-U.S. Major-Country Relationship, Director of the Center for American Studies and Dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University moderated the event, conducting in-depth academic dialogues with Mr. Vogel on related issues concerning Sino-U.S. relations. Despite the cold weather, the animated atmosphere came alive while Prof. Vogel splendidly replied to the questions raised by the audience present at the academic lecture, interactively exploring into and exchanging views on the issues of common concern.
