On September 12th, 2018, the work conference was held in the new semester and hosted by Professor WU Xinbo, Director of the Center for American Studies and Dean of the Institute of International Studies atFudan University. Director WU, in the first place, briefed on the compilation, editorial process and publication of Fudan American Review, incorporated into one of the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) source core journals, Annual Strategic Report on Sino-U.S. Relations and The Series on the United States and the World in the 21st Century, acknowledged as the benchmark and symbolic accomplishments achieved by the CAS community which has been designated by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China as one of the Key Research Institutes of Humanities and Social Sciences in Chinese Universities. Meanwhile, Professor WU introduced the forthcoming related events in commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of China-U.S. Diplomatic Relations:the “40 People on 40 Years” project launched by the Center for American Studies(CAS) at Fudan University, Shanghai Institute of American Studies(SIAS), and The Paper; the academic seminar co-organized by CAS at Fudan, SIAS and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries(SPAFFC) to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Ties between China and the United States. Professor WU emphasized that the CAS faculty members would be committed to undertaking and fulfilling the missions of decision-making and consultancy via focusing on such hotspot issues as the Sino-U.S. trade frictions, China-U.S. People-to-People and Cultural Exchange, the 2018 United States Midterm Election, thus putting forward numerous invaluable and significant policy proposals, information and countermeasures in service of the state diplomacy,continuously endeavoring to further the innovative achievements by means of promoting the building of the Key Research Institute and enhancing the capacity in the areas of academic researches and advisory service. Subsequently, Deputy Director SONG Guoyou presented the advances in constructing the Database of International Relations at Fudan University. Deputy Director XIN Qiang made an introduction and analysis of the evolution and adjustment of the U.S. attitude and its current policy towards China, sharing the self-experience and insights with colleagues during his one-year academic visit in the United States. The CAS researchers who attended the work conference conducted in-depth exchanges and probed into the following issues as the current bilateral ties between China and the United States, the 13th Five-Year Plan of Key Research Institutes of Humanities and Social Sciences in Universities nationwide and facilitating the construction of top university-affiliated think tanks with ever-growing impact driven by originality, expertise as well as competence accordingly.
