On May 13-14, 2023, the delegation of the Center for Middle East Studies (CMES), Fudan University, attended the conferences of the China Society for Middle East Studies and the China Society for Asian and African Studies and visited Peking University. The delegation comprised Director Sun Degang, research fellow Zou Zhiqiang, Professor Yin Zhiguang, Associate Professor Zhang Chuchu, Associate Professor Liao Jing, and postdoctoral fellow Du Donghui. On May 13th, the 9th Member Representative Conference of the China Society for Middle East Studies was held at Beijing Language and Culture University. Ambassador Li Lianhe from the Department of West Asia and North Africa Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a report titled “The Middle East Situation and China's Middle East Diplomacy.” More than 140 member representatives from over 40 universities and research institutions across China attended the conference. The 9th Council of the China Society for Middle East Studies was elected after the conference, with Sun Degang elected the Vice President and Zou Zhiqiang elected the Director. On May 14th, the 8th Member Representative Conference of the China Society for Asian and African Studies was held at Beijing Language and Culture University. Minister Counselor Li Bin of the Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a report on the present Africa and China-Africa relations. Over 180 member representatives from over 40 universities and research institutions nationwide attended the meeting. The conference elected the 8th Council of the China Society for Asian and African Studies, and Sun Degang was elected the Executive Director. On the afternoon of the 14th, the CMES delegation from Fudan University was invited to visit the Area and Country Research Institute of Peking University and had an in-depth exchange with Vice Dean Zhang Yongle, Vice Dean Zan Tao, and other researchers. They discussed various issues, including strengthening cooperation in Middle East studies, think tank construction, international exchanges, and talent cultivation between the two universities in the future. Professor Zheng Yu from the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University also participated in the event.
