On the afternoon of October 31, 2023, the 61nd session of the Youth Academic Workshop on International Studies of Fudan University (YAWIS Fudan) convened in conference room at the Center for Japanese Studies. The focal point of this session was "Trends and Developments in Indonesia’s Political Economy in the Run-up to the 2024 General Elections." Dr. Siwage Dharma Negara, a Senior Fellow at the ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute (ISEAS) in Singapore, served as the keynote speaker. Professor Qi Huaigao, Vice Dean of the Institute of International Studies, moderated the session. Dr. Xue Song, Associate Professor at the Center for China’s Relations with Neighboring Countries (CCRNC Fudan), contributed commentary. This event drew participation from over 20 faculty and students from Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai International Studies University, and various other academic institutions. Dr. Siwage Dharma Negara provided a comprehensive examination of Indonesia's recent economic developments, the economic strategies envisioned by presidential candidates in the context of the 2024 election, and Indonesia's stance regarding the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). During the commentary segment, Dr. Xue Song engaged in an extended discussion with Dr. Siwage Dharma Negara, exploring topics such as the "Jokowinomics" concept, Indonesia's economic policy openness in the post-Jokowi era, and China's investments within Indonesia. Dr. Sartika Soesilowati, a visiting scholar from Airlangga University, also delivered insightful commentary.
