The Tenth Symposium on China's Neighboring Diplomacy Convened by Fudan University

 On November 12-13, 2020, auspiced by the Institute of International Studies and organized by the Center for China's Relations with Neighboring Countries, the Tenth Symposium on China’s Neighborhood Diplomacy themed with "China's Neighborhood Diplomacy against the Backdrop of Major Changes Unseen in a Century" was convened at Fudan University, Shanghai, China. Professor Wu Xinbo, Dean of the Institute of International Studies and Director of the Center for American Studies at Fudan University commenced the inaugural plenary remarks. Ms. Yang Jian, Senior Research Fellow and Director of Center for China’s Relations with Neighboring Countries, Fudan University presided at the opening ceremony. Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Jianghao delivered the virtual keynote speech, briefed on current periphery circumstances, neighborhood diplomacy and in the meanwhile put forward methodological visions outlined for diplomatic endeavors.

    Evolving around the follow-up thematic sessions on "A Synthesis Overview of China's Neighborhood Diplomacy", "China's Major-country Diplomacy with Neighboring Countries", "The Belt and Road Initiative under Profound Changes Unseen in a Century", participants inclusive of over forty experts and academics from China Institute of International Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, University of International Business and Economics, Naikai University, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, Shanghai International Studies University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Jinan University and Fudan University presented attendance at the reverberating academic event. Mr. Xu Bu, President of China Institute of International Studies, addressed the keynote speech entitled “The Trend of International Landscape Evolution and China's Response”.

The parallel sessions inaugurally engaged five insightful academics from University of Malaya, Brookings Institution, The Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Sungkyunkwan University and Keio University to virtually exchange comprehensive, multi-variated perspectives constituting a plurality of dynamics with regard to hotspot issues in Northeast and Southeast Asia of common concern.

 To date, the Symposium on China's Neighborhood Diplomacy, acknowledged as one of the top-notch annually-held academic events, initiated and auspiced by the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University, has been convened with enormous success over the span of one decade.
