Center for Korean Studies Hosts the 17th Doctoral Forum on Korean Studies in China

From June 19th to 21st, 2023, the 17th Doctoral Forum on Korean Studies in China was successfully held at Fudan University. The forum was jointly organized by the Institute of International Studies (IIS) at Fudan University, the Center for Korean Studies at IIS, and the editorial department of Contemporary Korea published by the Social Sciences Academic Press. Prof. Zheng Jiyong, Director of the Korean Studies Center, chaired the forum, with notable speeches given by Prof. Feng Yujun, Deputy Dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University, and Yang Qun, the Chief Editor of the Social Sciences Academic Press.

Forum Opening Ceremony

The forum witnessed an assembly of doctoral students who were delving into the research of the Korean Peninsula's issues. Representing a vast range of institutions, attendees hailed from Peking University, Renmin University of China, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, University of International Business and Economics, Beijing Foreign Studies University, China University of Political Science and Law, Yanbian University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University, Sichuan University, Fudan University, as well as international institutions such as Seoul National University and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. These participants presented their respective research topics, sparking insightful discussions throughout the event.

Forum Presentation Session

Segmented into five focused themes - Politics and Diplomacy, Economy and Society, History and Philosophy, Language, Culture, and Medical Education - the forum allowed for a comprehensive exploration of diverse research areas. The presentations were critically reviewed by a panel of experts, including Prof. Zheng Jiyong, Director of the Korean Studies Center; Prof. Qi Huaigao, Deputy Dean of the Institute of International Studies; Prof. Zhang Liheng of Liaocheng University; Associate Prof. Wang Xinlei of Fudan University; and Xu Yuyan, editor of Contemporary Korea, who offered their detailed observations and feedback.
