On January 5th, 2024, the Dynamics and Transformation: Fudan International Strategic Report 2023 (hereafter referred to as the Report) was officially unveiled to the public. Professor Wu Xinbo, the Dean of the Institute of International Studies (IIS) and Director of the Center for American Studies (CAS) at Fudan University, presided over the release event. Fifteen international affairs experts, including Xin Qiang, Song Guoyou, Lin Minwang, Feng Yujun, Jian Junbo, Hu Lingyuan, and Zhang Jiadong, presented their findings. The event witnessed the participation of nearly 200 faculty and students from over 50 institutes, such as Renmin University of China, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Xiamen University, and Shanghai International Studies University, in both online and offline formats.
In the Report's introduction, Professor Wu Xinbo emphasized that turmoil and conflict defined the international situation in 2023. Existing crises persisted, while new challenges, such as the Israel-Palestine conflict and the rise of populist tendencies, contributed to global instability and uncertainty.
Underlining the theme of transformation, Wu Xinbo pointed out that the ascent of the Global South, the expansion of the BRICS mechanism, the reconciliation deal between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and technological advancements were reshaping the global situation. Through initiatives like the Global Development Proposal, Global Security Proposal, Global Civilization Proposal, and the Belt and Road Initiative, China aimed to support the vision of a shared future for humanity. Professor Wu underscored the imperative of adapting to and leading these transformative changes amidst unprecedented global shifts.
The Report, structured into 15 topics, covered a diverse range of issues, including international politics, the world economy, China’s foreign diplomacy, etc. Since 2013, the IIS Fudan has consistently released the Fudan International Strategic Report for 11 consecutive years, establishing it as a prominent brand of intellectual achievements with positive and widespread social impact. In December 2022, the Fudan International Strategic Report received the CTTI 2022 Annual Outstanding Think Tank Achievement Award.
