IIS Fudan has conducted numerous international research projects with other international institutes, which included “Transnational Research Project on Joint Development in the SCS,” “East Asian Peace program,” and “International Dialogue Project on ‘Chinese School’ of IR” etc.

Transnational Research Project on Joint Development in the SCS

The Transnational Research Project on Joint Development in the South China Sea is organized by the Center for China’s Relations with Neighboring Countries at Fudan University (CCRNCFudan). Key members of the project include Professor QI Huaigao, Associate Professor XUE Song, Senior Fellow HONG Nong from the National Institute for South China Sea Studies (NISCS), Dr. Bui Thi Thu Hien from the Institute of Chinese Studies at Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, and Dr. Aaron Jed Rabena from the Asia-Pacific Pathways to Progress (Philippines), etc.

On 26 May 2019, CCRNCFudan, Fudan Development Institute (FDDI)and Network of ASEAN-China Academic Institutes (NACAI) co-hosted a roundtable on Creative Thinking and Practical Policies of Joint Development in the South China Sea.” Eleven scholars and officials from China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia delivered speeches at the roundtable.

On 27 May 2019, the Cooperative Research Report on Joint Development in the South China Sea: Incentives, Policies & Ways Forward was released by eight scholars from China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia. East Asian Peace program

Professor Ren Xiao, Director of the Center for the Study of Chinese Foreign Policy (CFP Fudan), spent a 3-week research stay at Uppsala University, Sweden as a member of the East Asian Peace Program (EAP). He also attended two international workshops organized by EAP and held in Seoul, South Korea and Hanoi, Vietnam respectively.

As the final product of his research, Ren Xiao published the following journal article:

International Dialogue Project on “Chinese School” of IR

Professor Ren Xiao of the Center for the Study of Chinese Foreign Policy (CFP Fudan), together with Professor Lu Peng of East China University of Political Science and Law, are organizing an international research project involving Chinese and international IR scholars to engage in a dialogue on the development of the “Chinese School” of international relations.

Leading scholars who are involved in this project include Barry Buzan, Peter Katzenstein, Qin Yaqin, and Yan Xuetong etc.

As the final product of this project, two special issues of an English and Chinese journal will be published in 2023.
