On April 20, 2024, the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University (hereinafter referred to as "IIS Fudan") welcomed a delegation of senior scholars from Indonesia. The purpose of this meeting was to foster comprehensive cooperation between the two parties in research, education, and cultural interchange.

Professor Qi Huaigao, Vice Dean of the IIS Fudan, extended a warm welcome to the Indonesian delegation, underscoring the enduring historical ties between Fudan University and Indonesia. IIS Fudan has maintained longstanding academic collaborations with a few Indonesian universities and research institutions. It is anticipated that through this exchange, further expansion of collaborative endeavors and enhancement of cultural interaction can be realized, thus contributing to the ongoing advancement of China-Indonesia relations.

Xue Song, an Associate Professor of IIS Fudan, provided a detailed overview of the academic collaborationbetween IIS Fudan and Indonesia in recent years. Both parties have jointly conducted research projects such as "Cooperative Development in the South China Sea" and "Reflection on 10-year Belt and Road Initiative in Indonesia," forging close partnerships with several prominent Indonesian research institutions. These endeavors have led to a series of high-level international conferences, edited book in English, research papers, and media articles, exerting significant influence within academic and societal spheres. The Institute has consistently prioritized personnel exchanges with Indonesia, actively promoting bilateral communication. In 2019, a delegation from Fudan University visited Jakarta and Surabaya, engaging in fruitful exchanges with Indonesian universities and think tanks, laying a strong foundation for future cooperation. Additionally, IIS Fudan has hosted two Indonesian visiting scholars, providing them with opportunities to lecture through platforms such as the Youth Academic Workshop on International Studies of Fudan University (YAWIS Fudan), further facilitating academic exchange and collaboration.

The Indonesian delegation conveyed sincere gratitude to IIS Fudan for hosting this exchange and expressed interests in deepening cooperation. During the cordial and fruitful discussions, both parties delved extensively into topics including China-Indonesia maritime cooperation, Indonesia's domestic and foreign policies, research partnerships, and student exchange programs.
Representatives from Fudan University included Xue Song, Associate Professor at IIS Fudan, He Jie, Assistant Professor from the School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA Fudan), Liu Li, Assistant Professor from the Fudan Development Institute (FDDI), along with five Indonesian graduate students from Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Members of the Indonesian delegation comprised Professor Evi Fitriani from the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Indonesia (UI), Dean Teguh Dartanto from the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Indonesia (UI), Dean Nina Nurmila from the School of Education at the International Islamic University of Indonesia (UIII), Director I Made Andi Arsana of the Master of Surveying Engineering Program at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Director Djayadi Hanan of the Doctoral Program in Political Science at the International Islamic University of Indonesia (UIII), Professor Arif Zamhari from the Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Islamic State University (UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta), and Researcher Hayati Nufus from the Political Science Research Institute of the Indonesian Institute of Science (BRIN).
Throughout the meeting, both sides not only reflected on past collaborations but also eagerly anticipated future prospects. Through substantive dialogue and exchange, consensus was achieved across various domains. Both parties are committed to translating these interests into tangible outcomes through concrete collaborative initiatives, thereby advancing academic exchange and cooperation between China and Indonesia to a deeper level.
