Dean Wu Hosts Roundtable on “How to Reshape China-U.S. Relations” at Shanghai Forum 2021

On October 29-31, 2021, the premier Shanghai Forum 2021 themed with “Recovery and Resilience: Asia’s Role in a Sustainable Future--Civilization in the Post-Pandemic Era: Development, Governance and Security” and convened in a hybrid format, unveiled sterling debuts, engaging approximately 2200 virtual and on-site distinguished attendees composed of think tank scholars, academics at institutes of higher learning, research sectors, enterprise, government, and media delegates from over forty countries across the globe.

Professor Wu Xinbo facilitated the roundtable evolving around “How to Reshape China-U.S. Relations” on the morning of October 30th, 2021. The fabulous hybrid event featured an array of keynote panelists: Professor Wu Xinbo, Dean of the Institute of International Studies and Director of the Center for American Studies at Fudan University, Frank Jannuzi (President and CEO of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation), Evan S. Medeiros (Penner Family Chair in Asian Studies and the Cling Family Senior Fellow in U.S.-China Relations, Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University), Xu Bu (President, China Institute of International Studies; Former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to ASEAN (2015-2018) and to Chile (2018-2020), Li Mingjiang (Associate Professor, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University) and Zhao Minghao (Senior Fellow, Center for American Studies, Fudan University).

Esteemed panelists elaborated upon major issues of common interest, specifically probing into engagement and dialogue, how bilateral ties look ahead and press forward under the Joe Biden administration and how to jointly tap collaborative potentials to infuse more positive dynamics into China-U.S. relations. Traversing into the midst of the live rounds, the on-site and virtual attendants dwelled on the correlated issues in the two-hour webinar hybrid, engaged in the immersive Q&A session and interacted vigorously with the research fellows, delivering inquisitive and perceptive reflections tinted with brimming subtleties and perspicacious sagacity.
