On June 27, 2024, at noon, the Center for American Studies at Fudan University (CAS Fudan) hosted the reception for the 2024 Fudan-Harvard Summer School. The event was chaired by Professor Wu Xinbo, Dean of the Institute of International Studies and Director of the Center for American Studies at Fudan University. Nicholas Burns, the U.S. Ambassador to China; Scott Walker, the U.S. Consul General in Shanghai; and over 30 faculty and students from Harvard University and Fudan University attended the reception.
Prof. Wu Xinbo, Prof. Jie Li from Harvard University, and Prof. Daniel Koss from Harvard University delivered speeches. Prof. Wu Xinbo warmly welcomed the 18 Harvard faculty and students visiting the CAS and expressed his confidence in the success of this summer school. Prof. Jie Li and Prof. Daniel Koss extended their heartfelt thanks to Prof. Wu and the CAS for their thoughtful arrangements for the Harvard summer school and shared their positive experiences of this teaching and research collaboration.
Ambassador Burns also delivered a speech and interacted with the Chinese and American students present. He encouraged American students to learn the Chinese language and deeply understand Chinese history and culture. He emphasized that candid exchanges and mutual understanding between young students from China and the U.S. are crucial for the development of China-U.S. relations. He expressed his hope that the two countries will continue to strengthen educational and cultural exchanges in the future, providing sustained momentum for the improvement of China-U.S. relations.
