On the afternoon of June 27, 2024, the Center for American Studies at Fudan University hosted a lecture featuring Professor Yuan Ming, Honorary Dean of Yenching Academy of Peking University and Professor at the School of International Studies at Peking University. She shared her insights on My Experience with American Studies and People-to-People Exchanges with Fudan faculty and students. The lecture was chaired by Professor Wu Xinbo, Dean of the Institute of International Studies and Director of the Center for American Studies at Fudan University, and attracted over 50 participants from different academic specialties.
Drawing on her more than 40 years of academic and teaching experience, Prof. Yuan Ming shared her unique insights into American studies and people-to-people exchanges. She emphasized that American studies should be combined with practice, involve extensive engagement with the other society, and require cultural sensitivity. Additionally, she highlighted the importance of cross-cultural research, which is, she believes, helpful for comprehensively understanding and addressing the complexities of international relations.
During the interactive session, faculty and students discussed topics such as campus life, academic experiences, and cultural development. The lecture concluded with enthusiastic applause, leaving a deep impression on the attendees with Professor Yuan Ming's insightful sharing.
