Liu Lirong is an Associate Professor of European Studies at Fudan University in Shanghai. She holds a Ph.D. (Dr. phil.) in sociology andan MA (Magistra Artium) in sociology, computer science and history of art from the University of Bonn in Germany, as well as a BA in journalism from Renmin University of China. She was Visiting Researcher at the Center for European Integration Studies in Bonn (2009), Visiting Fellow at the European Union Institute for Security Studies in Paris (2010), Visiting Researcher at LMU Munich (2012-2013), Visiting Researcher at Lund University (2013)and Visiting Researcher at German Council on Foreign Relations (2016).
Recent publications include Economic Freedom and Growth: an International Comparative Study (LIT Press, 2007, in German), Culture and National Security as Determinants of Why Nations Arm (Engelhardt-Ng Press, 2007, in German),The EU and China’s engagement in Africa: the dilemma of socialisation (EUISS, 2011, in English),Medea’s Anger: the Change of Social Values in Europe (Tongji University Press, 2011, in Chinese)and Twilight of the European Dream (China Social Sciences Press, 2017, in Chinese).
She applies modern quantitative methods, i.e., multivariate statistics or econometric methods to the international studies. Current research focuses on: Sino-EU relations, Germany Studies, China-EU-Africa trilateral relations, the interplay between culture and political economy.
