Shi Yuanhua, a native of Wuxi, Jiangsu Province of China, was born on April 21, 1949. Prof. Shi graduated from Fudan University, majoring in history. Currently, Shi Yuanhua serves as Professor at Institute of International Studies (IIS), Ph.D. supervisor of Fudan University. In the meantime, Shi Yuanhua concurrently serves as Part-time Professor of Department of Diplomacy at School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) at Fudan University, Deputy Director of the Collaborative Innovation Center for Territorial Sovereignty and Maritime Rights (CICTSMR), and Deputy Director of the Center for Asia-Pacific Cooperation and Governance at Fudan University(University Think-Tank of Shanghai).

Previously, Shi Yuanhua served as Deputy Dean of Department of History at Fudan University from 1985 to 1990 and from1992 to 1996 respectively. After that, Shi Yuanhua served as Director of Center for Korean Studies of Fudan University from 2000 to 2014, Chairman of Academic Committee of Fudan University’s IIS from 2007 to 2013, Vice Chairman of Experts Committee of Shanghai Forum, Member of Academic Committee of Center for Asian Studies of Fudan University, Member of Advisory Board of International Exchange and Cooperation (Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) Fudan University, Standing Member and Director of Editorial Board of Korea Studies Symposium of Fudan University and Korea Studies Essays from 1995 to 2014. From November 2013 to September 2019, Shi Yuanhua worked as Director of the Center for China’s Relations with Neighboring Countries at Fudan University (CCRNC-Fudan).

Prof. Shi also concurrently serves as Vice President of Chinese Society for Historians of China’s Foreign Relations (CSHCFR), Vice President of North Korea History Research Association of China, Vice President of Shanghai Society for People’s Friendship Studies, the first batch of  Distinguished External Referee for Social Sciences in China Press, Senior Research Fellow of Center for Korean Peninsula Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Visiting Professor of Beijing Foreign Studies University, Member of Advisory Committee of National Assembly Library of the Republic of Korea (ROK), Distinguished Research Fellow of National Institute of Korean History (NIKH) of ROK, Distinguished Research Fellow of Ministry of Patriots and Veterans’ Affairs (WPVA) of ROK, Honorary Stewards of Korea-China Cultural Association of ROK, Research Fellow of Center for Northeastern Asia Studies at University of Shimane in Japan.

Prof. Shi also has abundant experience as Visiting Scholar: Rikkyo University/Saint Paul’s University (1990-1992), University of Tokyo (1998-1999), Hitotsubashi University (1998-1999), KMT Party History Museumin Taipei (1999), Institute for Far Eastern Studies at Kyungnam University (2002), and Academia Sinica in Taipei (2006).

Prof. Shi has also published books as follows: Diplomacy History of the Republic of China, The New Theory on the Diplomacy History of the Republic of China (three volumes), A Historical Analysis of Modern China’s Relations with the Neighboring Countries, The History of the Republic of China (Volume 10, co-author), Collected Papers on Korean Independence Movement and China (two volumes), Chronicles of Korean Independence Movement and China (three volumes, co-author), Studies on the Korea-China Cultural Association, Studies on Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea’s Delegation to China, The Wang Jingwei Puppet Regime History (two volumes, co-author), Biography of Chen Gongbo.

Prof. Shi served as editor-in-chief in following books: Lexicon on Diplomacy History of the Republic of China, 300 Issues on China’s Foreign Relations, Ten Diplomats of China, The New Theory on the Bloody History of Korean Independence Movement, Collected Papers on the 80th Anniversary of the Establishment of Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, Korean Peninsula Issue since the Cold War, 30 Years: International Relations in Northeast Asia (co-editor), The Chinese Cultural Circle in East Asia and its Relations with China, Regional Cooperation in Northeast Asia and Sino-Japan-South Korea Relations (co-editor), Shen Guizhi, Min Bigao, and Sino-Korea Relations (co-editor), Reflections and New Explorations on Korea’s Traditional Cultures, Studies on Parties and Societies in Korean Independence Movement, New Explorations on Korean Independence Movement Studies (co-editor).

Prof. Shi once took charge of Korea Studies Symposium of Fudan University (24 volumes in total) and Korea Studies Essays (25 volumes in total) from 1995 to 2014, “Diplomats of the Republic of China” special column of World Affairs (106 issues in total) from 2007 to 2013, Diplomats of the Republic of China series (originally in seven volumes, and then expanded into eight volumes in updated version), and Fudan University series on China’s Neighboring Diplomacy Studies.

Prof. Shi once participated in compiling the Qu Qiubai Wenxuan and the Qu Qiubai Wenji edited by CCCPC Party Literature Research Office.

By now, Prof. Shi has published over 160 academic articles in Social Sciences in China (Internal), Historical Research, Contemporary China History Studies, Modern China History Studies, World Economics and Politics, International Studies, Journal of International Relations, Chinese Studies in History (A&HSCI), and The Korean Journal of Defense Analysis (SSCI). Since 2003, Prof. Shihas released over 300 commentaries and exclusive interviews regarding international affairs.

Prof. Shi has gained province-level and ministry-level Excellent Academic Works Award (Philosophy and Social Sciences) for seven times. Prof. Shi was also granted with The First Wolong Academy Award in Korea Studies.

Prof. Shi’s major research areas are as follows: modern and contemporary history of China’s diplomacy, history of the Republic of China, history of China’s Resistance War against Japanese Aggression, history of Wang Jingwei Puppet Regime, China’s neighboring diplomacy, Korean Peninsula issue and international relations in Northeast Asia, Korean Independence Movement and history of Sino-Korean relation.
