  Dr. Qi Huaigao is a Professor of International Relations at Fudan University’s Institute of International Studies (IIS Fudan). Dr. Qi has served as Vice Dean of IIS Fudan since November 2017, and was Deputy Director of the Center for China’s Relations with Neighboring Countries at Fudan University (CCRNC-Fudan) from November 2013 to September 2021. Dr. Qi has been promoted to Professor in December 2020. Dr. Qi is a Ph.D. supervisor of International Relations at Fudan University’s School of International Relations and Public Affairs. 

  He received a Ph.D. in World History from Wuhan University in June 2007, a M.A. in World History from Wuhan University in June 2004, and a B.A. in History from Xiangtan Normal University in June 2001. 

He was a Swire Scholarship Academic Visitor at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford from October 2017 to September 2018, a Rajawali Fellow of Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government from January 2013 to December 2013, and a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Political Science at Fudan University’s School of International Relations and Public Affairs from July 2008 to September 2010.

His major research areas are China's neighboring diplomacy, China's ocean affairs, Asia Pacific international relations, international organization and global governance.

His books in Chinese include: China’s Ocean Affairs with Its Maritime Neighbors (Beijing: World Affairs Press, November 2022); China’s Integration Strategies with Fulcrum Countries along the Belt and Road (Beijing: World Affairs Press, July 2019); China’s Peripheral Security and Its Neighboring Diplomacy against the Backdrop of Its Rising (Beijing: Zhonghua Book Company, July 2014);Building East Asia's Future: China-U.S. Institutional Balancing and Transformation of East Asia System (Beijing: China Social Sciences Press,September2011);War and Order: Study on China’s Resistance War against Japanese Aggression and the Evolution of the East Asia International Order (Shanghai: Fudan University Press,November2010).

  His book in English is Cooperative Development in the South China Sea: Policies, Obstacles, and Prospects (London: Routledge, 2021, co-edited with Dr. Song XUE).

 Dr. Qi was an Adjunct Research Fellow at the Collaborative Innovation Center for Territorial Sovereignty and Maritime Rights (CICTSMR) at Wuhan University from January 2014 to December 2017.
