On the morning of December 12, 2025, Madelyn Ross, alumna of Fudan University and former President of the US–China Education Trust (USCET), visited the Center for American Studies, Fudan University (CAS Fudan). Ms. Ross studied at Fudan during 1979-1980, becoming the first American student to be admitted following the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States.
Professor Wu Xinbo, Director of CAS and Dean of the Institute of International Studies (IIS Fudan), received Ms. Ross and her delegation and accompanied them on a tour of the Center’s academic exhibition.
Following the visit, Ms. Ross delivered a lecture titled “Building Bridges With Education: A Personal Perspective on US-China Student Exchanges.” Addressing an audience of over forty Fudan faculty members and students, she shared her personal reflections on studying at Fudan 45 years ago and offered insights drawn from more than four decades of experience promoting China–U.S. educational exchanges.
The session was chaired by Professor Wu Xinbo, who engaged Ms. Ross in a lively discussion and joined her in responding to questions from the audience.
