Dr. Yongwook Ryu is currently a Taiwan Fellow, and has been a Research Fellow in the Department of International Relations at the Australian National University. His main research expertise relates to East Asian international relations, including the foreign policies of China, Japan and Korea. His past research has been published in The Asian Survey, The Pacific Review, Harvard Asia Quarterly among others, and he has published widely on such topics as Japanese foreign policy, Yasukuni Shrine controversy, ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights, and Korean foreign policy. His current research projects include Chinese economic statecraft, national identity and audience costs, and threat perception in Sino-Japanese relations. He holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Government, Harvard University.
