Prof. Grimm has been a Professor at the Technical University of Nuremberg since 2024, where she heads the Energy Systems and Market Design Lab. Since 2020, Veronika Grimm has been a member of the German Council of Economic Experts. In addition, she serves on numerous committees and advisory boards, including the Focus Group on Energy and Climate of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Scientific Advisory Board on Economic Policy, the Expert Commission on Energy Transition Monitoring at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the National Hydrogen Council of the Federal Government, the Advisory Council for Consumer Affairs at the Federal Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection (BMUV), and the Energy Steering Panel of the European Academies’ Science Advisory Council (EASAC). She is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Siemens Energy AG and serves on the Executive Board of the Hydrogen Center Bavaria (H2.B). Her research focuses on energy markets and energy market modeling, energy & AI, behavioral economics, social networks, as well as auctions and market design.

Abstract: The first part analyzes economic developments in Germany and Europe in the context of global economic and geopolitical transformations. The second part of the lecture addresses the challenges the EU is facing in the context of strengthening its defense capabilities against the backdrop of current geopolitical developments. The role of artificial intelligence and the importance of global cooperation in light of the existential risks posed by AI are also discussed.
